MESQUITE, NV - Salt Lake’s Four Seasons softball club found the perfect winter ball location when they headed south to Mesquite, NV. Four Seasons won the USSSA Last Chance Tournament on Nov. 5th.
It was a rematch of the winner’s bracket championship game as Four Seasons faced Bitton Auto Sales for the championship. In their first meeting Four Seasons came out on top 16-9. "We just didn’t hit", said one of the Bitton players.
In the final game it was a dramatic bottom of the seventh inning that propelled the Four Seasons squad to victory. With one out, Four Seasons’ Lynn Koester slid head first across home to end the game. "I was so worried about calling myself safe that I belly flopped as I slid home," said Koester.
Bitton Auto Sales out of Ogden, UT battled hard to finish as runner-up. Bitton found themselves with a 7-2 lead after a six run fourth inning. They held Four Seasons scoreless in the bottom of the inning. In the fifth, Bitton didn’t score and Four Seasons only managed one run.
In the top of the sixth Bitton went 1-2-3. Four Seasons took advantage when a dropped ball by the right-center fielder and an error by the second baseman led to five runs and a one run lead heading into the seventh inning.
Bitton scored three times in the top of the seventh as an error by the Four Seasons left-center fielder allowed two unearned runs to score. In the bottom of the seventh, Four Seasons banged out five hits and with one out Koester slid home safely to begin the celebration.
