Scottsdale Fever take Arizona Triple Crown

TUCSON, AZ - The scene was set on September 30th and October 1st at Tucson, Arizona’s Sportspark for a closely contested tournament during the Top 4 Triple Crown Sports National Qualifier. The tournament qualified teams for the 2006 World Series Berth to the top four teams in each age providing there were eight teams in a division. If there were less than eight teams, the top two would receive 2006 World Series Berths. The tournament pitted fastpitch teams of various age brackets against one another.

Four teams competed in the 10U ‘A’ age group and Scottsdale Fever of Scottsdale, Arizona would beat all comers with five wins and zero losses. In fact they were the only team in that age group to come out with a winning record. This outstanding tournament appearance qualified the team for a World Series Berth.

In the 12U ‘B’ division the Yuma Arsenal of Yuma, Arizona would qualify for the World Series berth by going 3-1. The Sun Divas of Mesa, Arizona also qualified with a second place 2-2 finish. Four teams competed in this grouping.

In the 14U ‘A’ class eight teams vied for a berth in the World Series. The Scottsdale Fever of Scottsdale, Arizona would take it with a perfect 6-0 record. This class would turn out to be more competitive with Impulse 93 of Tucson, AZ going 4-2, the Cal Desert Vipers of Imperial Valley, California going 4-1 and the Tucson Extreme 93 of Tucson, Arizona going 2-3. All four teams would qualify for World Series Berths.

The 16U ‘A’ class fielded the most teams with nine. The 92 AZ Cats of Tucson, Arizona would take the championship with a 5-1 finish, while 92 Impulse also of Tucson, Arizona would go 5- 2. The Casa Grande Extreme of Casa Grande, Arizona went 3-2 and Chaos, of Tucson, Arizona went 3-2.

All four teams qualified for World Series Berths.
