SACRAMENTO, CA – Softball finally came down to the end and determined who was the best of the season in the USSSA Men’s “D” State Championships in Sacramento, CA on August 11-12. Tournament director, Lance Oliver said, “The tournament went better than I had hoped.”
Oliver wanted to make sure that there weren’t any illegal bats at the tournament, so he made all the players aware that their bats would be tested before tournament play. “I know we got a lot of people to leave their cheater sticks at home for this tournament, so it did work on trying to get them out of the game,” Oliver said. But he mentioned they still found 35 illegal bats in 91 games.
After going undefeated with five wins and 300 USSSA points, Cocky Athletics Softball won the tournament. The team’s amazing 70 runs scored and minimal 38 runs allowed helped push their point value 75 points above the second place team.
Regency Softball Club came in second place with 225 points. Their four wins and two losses helped determine their score. In third place was San Benito Performance Cycles/Worth, also with four wins and two losses. But because they allowed more runs then Regency Softball Club, they only received 200 points. Rebo Trucking/Tanel 360 took fourth place with 175 points (three wins and two losses) and Mid Valley Plastering/Worth came in fifth place.
Mid Valley Plastering/Worth had the most runs scored with a whopping 114 runs in the tournament, as well as tying the record with the most wins (five). Though, with two losses and 64 runs allowed, that brought Mid Valley’s point value down to 155. Titan Group also tied for fifth place with 155 points.
