SPARKS, NV – Sparks Mayor Geno Martini throws out the first pitch at the grand opening of the highly anticipated Golden Eagle Regional Park on April 14, 2008. “It’s a historical day for the City,” said Martini. The $30 million Complex is on a 450-acre parcel. Upon completion the Complex will cover more than 140 acres with another 160 acres to be developed as money becomes available.

“The city researched the type of artificial turf to use for over two years,” said Stan Sherer, Parks & Recreation Director. Jim Mendenhall, representative for Field Turf said this installation is the largest artificial turf project in the world.

Sherer added that two unique play structures will be built in the coming months, a whiffle ball field and a glove climbing wall. Play began at the complex the evening of April 14th.
