SPARKS, NV –The Boneyard Blast II was kicked off by festivities including a live DJ, beer pong, a beer chugging contest and a homerun derby. The event was presented by Coors Light and took place at Nevada’s quickly famed Golden Eagle Regional Park the weekend of July 11-13. Once the fun and games were done, 85 teams got down to business. Men’s E led the way with 53 teams making an appearance while the men’s D division had a nice showing with 10 teams and Coed brought 22 teams.

The Men’s D tournament saw some heated rivalries between teams all confident that they were the top dog. When it came down to the championship the only teams left standing were two young up-and-coming squads, FDI and STB both from Reno, NV. Both teams earned their way into the final game and were certain they would take the top prize. Justin Norris, coach of FDI, said going into the Championship game he was mildly surprised to face STB, but “knew it would be a good game”. STB entered the winner’s bracket championship as the undefeated team but in the end it was FDI double dipping STB 6-5 and 6-2. FDI finished with a 5-1 record and the championship. The tournaments’ MVP went to FDI’s Mike Lee and all tourney’s to Chad Bartek, Lucas Delong and Nate Muzzi. All tourney’s for STB went to Dustin Bria, Mike Todd and Rusty Kuwachi as their team went 4-2 for weekend. Birds BoyZ at 3-2 took the third spot and the 2-2 Titan Softball team finished fourth.

The main event of the Boneyard Blast II was the 53 teams coming together to battle for the Men’s E crown. Battling the heat for two long days, teams tried hard to stay our of the “Figure It Out” side of the bracket which is the name given to the loser’s bracket by the event organizers. Perfect Game from Grass Valley, CA managed to stay in the winner’s bracket until a setback against All About U, Fremont, CA, forced the if game. Perfect Game rebounded to take an 11-4 win and the top prize finishing the weekend with an 8-2 record. The Gold Glove award went to Perfect Game coach Jayson McDaniel and their all tourney’s were Justin Demay, Ryan Carlson and Donner Walters. All About U gave the MVP trophy to Daryal Allen and Kurt Defeanco, Sean Contos and Sheldin Padilla earned all tourney. Also finishing at 8-2 was the third place Rag Tag team and at 5-2 and in fourth place was Chooley Legacy.

The COED teams came to play hard and had a lot of enthusiasm on the field. Sacramento, California’s NVS/DSS Bats coasted through the top of the tourney with a familiar feeling of last year. Showing up as returning champs they dialed it in and took home the trophy once again this year defeating Big Kids 4-3 in the final going a perfect 6-0 for the weekend. The Big Kids finished with a 5-2 record. NVS/DSS Bats’ MVP was Mike Rodrigez and the Golden Glove went to Trewdy Wolfe. All-tourney’s for NVS/DSS were Chanel Gonzales, Mark Mendenhall and Harry Rodrigez. Big Kids all-tourny’s went to Kenny R, Stacey Arnaudo and Conny Benavidez. Junk took the third spot and L & H Concrete/Reg fourth, both with 6-2 records.
