PHOENIX, AZ – Thirty-three teams hit the fields at Rose Mofford Sports Complex for the ASA Girl’s Fastpitch Fun In The Sun Tournament on the last Spring weekend in June. After more than two weeks of 100°+ temperatures in May, the weather was relatively mild, only getting into the mid-nineties, making for an enjoyable tournament with pool games on Saturday and single-elimination brackets on Sunday.

In the 14U Division with 10 teams, 96 Arizona Hotshots went undefeated to earn the top slot, with Sunday wins over Az Killer Bees 96 (5-1), QC Blaze (8-0) and 8-4 in the championship game over second-place ShockWave--Tucson. Casualties left behind by ShockWave--Tucson as they made their way through the brackets included Desert Fuego (12-4), Desert Scorpions (8-3) and Team Intensity Sports (11-5). QC Blaze and Team Intensity Sports tied for third place.

Arizona Storm 14U, playing up in 16U, took the 12-team division championship by storm, defeating the Diamond Devils (10-4), Impulse 93 (5-1) and Arizona Outlaws 95 (9-0). On their way to earning the second spot, Arizona Outlaws 95 had wins over AZ Quicksilver (3-0), Sugar & Spikes (13-2) and Lil Saints--Dale (9-2) before being hit by the first-place Storm. Third place honors were shared by Impulse 93 and Lil Saints--Dale.

AZ Hotshots--Householder had control of the 11-team 18U Division throughout the pool and bracket play, with no losses on their path to first place. In bracket games on Sunday, they defeated AZ Liberty (9-0), Thunderhawks (10-2) and handed second place to AZ Hotshots--Creed (11-1). After a rough day of pool play (no wins) on Saturday, AZ Hotshots--Creed came back with determination to win on Sunday, taking out Sugar and Spikes (8-7), Tucson Pure Lightning (7-1) and Chaos (5-2); then they tangled with the other Hotshots. Thunderhawks started strong on Sunday, winning over Scottsdale Heat 18U (8-3) and Az Killer Bees (7-6), but couldn’t get past AZ Hotshots--Householder. Third place ended up as a tie between Thunderhawks and Chaos.
