SPARKS, NV – Both the Men’s and Coed divisions went to “if” games where the undefeated teams were double-dipped for the 2010 Softball West Challenge Tournament title. Dongs & Thongs defeated the Free Agents in an extra-inning “if” game for the Coed trophy while the Dirt Bags defeated the Bad Guys twice for the Men’s title.

The Bad Guys looked unstoppable on Saturday as they cruised to a 2-0 record and won their first game on Sunday morning over the Dirt Bags by a 16-9 score. The Dirt Bags then went into the loser’s bracket where they soundly defeated ATG 19-3 to earn another shot against the Bad Guys. This time around the Bad Guys bats were kept in check and the Dirt Bags won 17-9 to force the “if” game. In the “if” game the Dirt Bags again played solid defense and the Bad Guys couldn’t get their offense going as the Dirt Bags won the E division title 13-6. Lance Dattilo was the MVP for the Dirt Bags and Anthony Rodriguez was the Golden Glove winner for the Bad Guys.

All tourney awards were given to Pat Mansfield, Tyler Curry and sponsor George McElroy of the Dirt Bags, Catmandu Baker, Jake Moschetti and Josh Bradley from the Bad Guys, Aaron Lang and Victor Vitacca of third place ATG and Alex Smith and Nick Scheffel for fourth place Adrenaline.

The Free Agents and Thongs & Dongs are familiar foes and they faced each other three times to determine the winner of the Softball West Challenge Coed division. In round one the Free Agents came out on top with a close 19-16 win. This sent the Thongs & Dongs squad into the loser’s bracket where they defeated Bad Intentions, Bohica and the Head Hunters to reach the championship game. This time Thongs & Dongs were victorious by a 19-16 score to force the “if” game. The if game was well played and close with the score tied at the end of 7 innings. Thongs & Dongs offense came alive in the top of the 8th as they put the game away to take the top spot. Head Hunters finished third and Bohica came in fourth. Thongs & Dongs MVP was Kyle Walters with A.J. Abasta, Chelsea Cohen and Sheri Gannon earning all tourneys.
