Sparks Hosts Annual Toys for Tots Tournament

SPARKS, NV - The 14th Annual Toy for Tots Tournament was held at Shadow Mt. Park on October 2-3. There were 28 coed and men's teams that participated over the weekend, with both championship teams making a clean sweep.

In the men's D division, the Bucks (Sparks) took the lead in the first inning and never looked back. The Rookies (Gardnerville) attempted a rally in the sixth, but the Bucks refused to let go of the lead. The final score was 13-7. Doug Foremaster, Tournament Director said, "The Bucks had great defense and early bats all weekend." The Donkey Punchers (Reno) took third place, with Minden Aircraft (Minden) taking fourth. The Offensive MVP award for the Bucks went to Marcus Urban, with Pat Flury, Matt Vesbie, Kevin Bradley and Brian Smithwick making the all-tournament team. Travis Backland was named Defensive MVP for the Rookies, with Josh Green, Trevor Fon and Bruce Jacobson making the all-tournament team. Other all tournament selections included Erron Dykins and Sean Seaman from the Donkey Punchers and Brian McKee from Minden Aircraft.

In the coed D division, RM Mechanical (Boise, ID) took an early lead in the championship game, scoring in every inning and showing The Junk Softball (Gardnerville) who was in charge. The final score was 23-15, with Amos Haley taking the Offensive MVP award and all tournament selections going to Ed DeCouto, Scott McFadden, Michelle Kelley and Jeanne Clemons from RM Mechanical. The Defensive MVP awards went to Dana Aiono from The Junk Softball, with all tournament awards going to Art Lamontage and Inger Enochson. Third place went to Master Tech (Sparks) and fourth went to X-treme Softball (Sparks).
